Broken down into 2 parts mainly, the first will be used in conjunction to the link baiting; we will submit items to social sites, if people like them they will vote for them etc this will generate more viewers and exposure. Some sites like Digg can generate 1000s of hits per minute if an item reaches the front page. Depending on the item this can generate a few links or thousands of links.
The second part is the development of blogs or news sections. We will install a blog or use the existing system to advertise the latest company news, new services, industry specific articles, research etc this is then used in conjunction with RSS and Social Networking sights to syndicate the items we post. These generate links back to the site, increase exposure, provide unique fresh content for the search engines and possibly the most important thing is they give a bit of life to the site, it no longer behaves as a faceless corporate entity, people get the latest news they can comment and ask question and they can get direct feedback from the site/company/individual.
This technique is so important even Google themselves have implemented a blog (googleblog.blogspot.com). The main reason for this is to provide some form of interaction between Google and the customer.
